Air Force defeats California Baptist 25-16 at Air Force Academy

Air Force built a series of decision wins and a technical fall to beat California Baptist in a Feb. 15 dual at the United States Air Force Academy.

AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. — Air Force beat California Baptist 25-16 on Feb. 15, 2026, at the United States Air Force Academy.

Air Force opened the dual with a major decision at 125 pounds as Tucker Owens defeated No. 28 Cooper Shore, 11-1. Owens scored a three-point takedown and a three-point nearfall late in the third period, and a riding-time point closed the margin.

California Baptist responded in parts of the middle weights. Richard Murillo, listed No. 32 at 133, rallied to a 12-7 decision after a second-period three-point takedown that helped him seize the lead. Paul Kelly (149) posted a 4-0 decision, Drayden Morton (157) edged Lincoln Gregersen 5-4, and Gabe Schumm produced a 13-3 major decision at 165 for California Baptist.

Air Force regained momentum with a string of matches that preserved its lead. Carter Nogle won 10-1 by major decision at 141, using a third-period nearfall and riding time. No. 31 Brian Burburija posted a 17-2 technical fall at 184, adding multiple third-period takedowns and a riding-time point. No. 30 Karson Tompkins added a 2-0 decision at 197, and Rylan Kuhn closed the lineup with a 4-2 decision at 285.

Timothy Cowan’s 4-1 victory at 174 required an overtime takedown after a 1-1 regulation score, and those late-period and overtime outcomes factored into Air Force’s margin. The final scoreline reflected a mix of bonus-point major decisions and a technical fall for both sides, with Air Force finishing ahead 25-16.

Several ranked wrestlers factored directly in the outcome: Cooper Shore (No. 28) fell at 125, Richard Murillo (No. 32) won at 133, Carter Nogle defeated No. 33 Jesse Vasquez at 141, and Tompkins (No. 30) and Burburija (No. 31) provided key wins for Air Force.

Air Force improved its dual result at home; California Baptist collected multiple decisions and major decisions but finished short in the team score.
