Binghamton @ Cornell Recap
Cornell defeated Binghamton 33-6 at the Friedman Wrestling Center in New York on February 25, 2024, cruising to a 27-point dual meet victory. The margin reflected a heavy dose of bonus-point wrestling by the hosts that Binghamton could not match.
Cornell piled up bonus points in several big bouts, beginning with dominant performances at the lighter weights. Brett Ungar put together a 16-0 technical fall over Carson Wagner, and Marcello Milani followed with a 17-1 technical fall over Matthew Griffin, each worth five team points. In the midweights, Ethan Fernandez added a major decision, beating Jordan Brown 11-0 for four more team points. The win-sealer came at heavyweight when Lewis Fernandes recorded a fall over Charlie Tibbitts, delivering six team points and shutting the dual down.
Those bonus-point victories were the deciding factor; Cornell’s cluster of tech falls, a major and a pin created the decisive scoring run that separated the teams. A handful of big-team-point results, rather than a string of narrow decisions, accounted for the wide final score and left Binghamton with only a few non-bonus decisions on the board.
Overall, Cornell’s ability to finish matches and collect bonus points across multiple classes defined the meet. The 33-6 outcome at Friedman Wrestling Center left little doubt which team controlled the dual on February 25.
