Maryland @ Minnesota Recap

Minnesota Men's Wrestling topped Maryland Men's Wrestling 30-6 in Minnesota on February 2, 2024. The Golden Gophers built a commanding advantage behind multiple bonus-point wins that Maryland could not overcome over the course of the dual.

Highlight performances came from Minnesota’s heavy hitters. At 125 pounds Patrick McKee rolled to a 16-0 technical fall, picking up five team points. Garrett Joles delivered another technical fall at 197 pounds, finishing 20-4 and adding five more. Isaiah Salazar’s 10-1 major decision at 184 pounds and Bennett Tabor’s 12-4 major decision at heavyweight each supplied four team points, giving Minnesota four bonus victories in all.

That string of bonus results was decisive. The four bonus outcomes combined for 18 of Minnesota’s 30 team points, creating a margin Maryland never closed. McKee’s and Joles’ technical falls in particular swung the scoring by converting individual dominance into maximum damage on the scoreboard, while Salazar and Tabor turned close positions into major decisions that extended Minnesota’s lead.

Maryland managed six team points but was unable to produce a bonus win to shift momentum. The gap in bonus production and the timing of Minnesota’s high-scoring victories determined the dual, leaving the Golden Gophers with a comfortable 24-point road margin by the final whistle.
