Penn’s bonus-point barrage buries Harvard, 33-4

Late bonus scoring and multiple technicals turned a competitive early stretch into a rout for Penn at the Malkin Athletic Center.

Penn turned a tense Ivy League stop in Cambridge into a rout, beating Harvard 33-4 on Feb. 1 at the Malkin Athletic Center. The Quakers piled up majors and technical falls that produced the decisive team swing and left Harvard with just a single scoring bout on senior day.

The early hole grew fast. Penn won the first four bouts to open a 15-0 advantage, collecting decisions and a technical fall before Harvard reached the scoreboard. That burst forced the Crimson into comeback mode for much of the dual.

The individual fireworks came in the middle and late weights. No. 7 CJ Composto dominated at 141 with a 19-4 technical fall; a late takedown sequence in the third period helped push the match to the mercy rule. Cross Wasilewski, wrestling as No. 12 at 149, added a 14-5 major decision that pushed extra team points onto the board and widened the gap.

Penn’s ability to close out matches with bonus scoring continued at heavyweight, where John Vinciguerra closed with a 20-4 technical fall to seal the team’s final margin. Earlier in the lineup No. 14 Evan Mougalian delivered a 7-1 decision at 133 to help establish the Quakers’ early control.

Harvard’s lone scoring moment came at 157, when No. 27 Jimmy Harrington posted a 12-3 major decision over Wyatt Stout. Harrington’s second-period work — including a pair of nearfall sequences that opened separation — produced the Crimson’s only four points of the duel.

The result left Harvard 4-5 overall and 1-2 in Ivy play, while Penn left Cambridge with a 33-4 victory and momentum in the conference schedule. The Crimson had celebrated its senior class before the dual, and Penn had traveled to New England after being listed in its team preview as No. 23 entering the weekend.
