American @ Michigan State Recap

Michigan State topped American 28-12 in East Lansing on January 5, 2024, at Michigan State University, handing the visitors a 16-point defeat in the dual meet.

American's highlight came at 133 pounds when Maximilian Leete scored a fall over Andy Hampton, delivering six team points and giving American a lift. That pin was the most eye-catching result for the Eagles on the night.

Michigan State answered with a string of bonus-point victories that decided the dual. At 157 pounds Chase Saldate pinned Devon Capato for six team points, then at 165 Caleb Fish turned in an 8-0 major decision for four more. Later in the stretch Kael Wisler closed his bout at 197 with a 17-2 technical fall, adding five team points and widening the margin.

The turning point was Michigan State’s run of bonus offense after Leete’s pin; those high-value results produced the bulk of MSU’s scoring and prevented American from mounting a comeback. With the Spartans collecting multiple pins, majors and a tech fall in key spots, the dual never swung back, and Michigan State finished with a comfortable 28-12 victory.
