Virginia Tech @ NC State Recap
Virginia Tech edged NC State 21-12 in Raleigh on January 30, 2026, as the Hokies’ bonus-point production and a couple of key ranked wins swung the dual in their favor.
The difference came down to Virginia Tech’s bonus victories. Aaron Seidel’s 16-0 technical fall at 133 pounds supplied five team points, and Ethen Miller’s 12-1 major decision at 157 added four more. Those two bonus performances created separation that NC State struggled to erase. Eddie Ventresca’s tight 3-2 decision over No. 5 Vincent Robinson at 125 was another important margin-of-victory for the Hokies, keeping pressure on the Wolfpack on the scoreboard.
Virginia Tech also notched an upset when No. 10 Collin Gaj beat No. 5 Koy Buesgens 6-0 at 149, a result that further tilted the dual toward the visitors. NC State answered in spots with strong showings from Isaac Trumble, who as the team’s No. 2 heavyweight beat Jimmy Mullen 7-0, and Will Denny at 165, who handled No. 17 Ryan Burton 8-5. Those wins limited the damage but could not make up for the Hokies’ bonus-point surge.
In the end the Hokies’ technical fall and major decision, along with narrow wins over top opponents, proved decisive in a 21-12 victory for Virginia Tech in Raleigh.
