Maryland @ Purdue Recap
Purdue Men's Wrestling defeated Maryland Men's Wrestling 23-14 at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN on February 14, 2025. The dual came down to bonus-point wrestling, with Purdue collecting three bonus wins that ultimately created the separation on the scoreboard.
Matt Ramos and Joey Blaze delivered the big blows for Purdue, each earning technical falls — Ramos 17-1 at 125 pounds and Blaze 21-6 at 157 — worth five team points apiece. Ben Vanadia added a 10-1 major decision at 197 for four more Purdue points. Maryland answered with a dominant performance of its own from Jaxon Smith, who beat Orlando Cruz 21-6 by technical fall at 184 for five team points, but Smith’s bonus was not enough to counter Purdue’s trio of high-scoring results.
In the end the margin mirrored the bonus differential: Purdue’s two technical falls and a major provided the decisive edge in a dual where several other matches were competitive. Those bonus victories created a lead Maryland could not erase, and Purdue left West Lafayette with the 23-14 win.
