Oklahoma State @ West Virginia Recap
Oklahoma State defeated West Virginia 29-9 in Morgantown on January 14, 2024, handing the Mountaineers a 20-point loss in the Big 12 dual. The margin was built on a string of bonus-point finishes that separated the teams as the lineup progressed.
Four decisive bouts made the difference. At 125 pounds Troy Spratley posted a 12-1 major decision over Jace Schafer, good for four team points. Daton Fix dominated at 133 pounds with a 19-4 technical fall, adding five points. Brayden Thompson sealed a bonus with a fall at 174 pounds, a six-point swing that cannot be overstated. Dustin Plott also recorded a 19-4 technical fall at 184 pounds for another five team points.
Those bonus victories were the clear turning point. The combination of two technical falls, a major decision, and a pin produced the bulk of Oklahoma State’s scoring and left West Virginia chasing bonus-point answers they could not supply. With those high-value results combined into a single dual, Oklahoma State built an insurmountable lead that the Mountaineers were unable to erase.
Oklahoma State’s 29-9 win came down to finishing ability in the key matchups, while West Virginia’s losses in those weight classes decided the outcome. The bonus-point haul gave the Cowboys a comfortable road victory in Morgantown.
