Drexel @ Maryland Recap
Maryland Men's Wrestling beat Drexel Men's Wrestling 28-15 in College Park, MD on February 23, 2024. The Terrapins piled up bonus points in several key bouts that decided the dual, leaving Drexel short despite competitive outings in other matches.
Maryland grabbed five team points at 133 pounds when Braxton Brown finished John Hildebrandt by fall. That was followed by a dominant technical fall at 141 pounds, as Dario Lemus rolled to a 23-7 technical fall over Jordan Soriano to add another five bonus points and widen the gap.
The middle and upper weights produced the clinching margin. Chase Mielnik claimed a fall at 184 pounds for six more points, and Jaxon Smith tacked on another six-team-point fall at 197 to put Maryland firmly in control. The heavyweight bout closed the scoring emphatically when Seth Nevills posted an 18-2 technical fall over Dom Petracci for five bonus points, cementing the 28-15 final.
Those bonus-point victories were the difference; Maryland’s run of falls and technical falls created a stretch of high-value scoring that Drexel was unable to counter. While Drexel stayed competitive in several decisions, the cluster of bonus results in Maryland’s favor proved to be the turning point and ultimately decided the dual.
