Army edges American 22-17 at Army West Point
A string of bonus-point results in the middle of the dual gave Army a 22-17 victory over American in West Point, N.Y.
WEST POINT, N.Y. — Army defeated American 22-17 at Army West Point on Jan. 18, 2026.
American opened the dual by winning the first three matches, including a 19-4 technical fall from No. 24 Raymond Lopez at 133 pounds that supplied five team points for the visitors. Army rallied with a series of bonus-point outcomes that produced the decisive run.
Joseph Antonio put Army on the board at 157 with an 18-3 technical fall. Antonio recorded four takedowns and a three-point nearfall in the first period, then added an early second-period takedown that completed the technical fall.
Army followed with back-to-back technical falls at 165 and 197. Gunner Filipowicz, listed No. 19 at 165, posted a 17-2 technical fall, and Wolfgang Frable, listed No. 33 at 197, finished a 15-0 technical fall. Cooper Haase added a major decision at 174, a 10-2 result that further extended the Black Knights’ advantage.
American again closed the gap when No. 32 Caleb Campos won at 184 by decision, but Army’s combination of three technical falls and the major decision produced the scoring swing that held up for the final margin.
Late bouts provided routine scoring but no reversal of the outcome. At 285, No. 17 Brady Colbert recorded a 2-0 decision to secure Army’s advantage, and American closed the dual with JJ Peace’s 7-4 decision at 125.
The result marked Army’s first dual victory of the season in league play. Game summaries and team releases noted that Army recovered after dropping the first three bouts and won five of the next six matches, with all but one of the Black Knights’ wins coming by bonus points.
The dual highlighted contrasting strengths: American’s early offense produced high-scoring victories at the lower weights, while Army’s depth at the upper weights generated bonus-point results that decided the meet.
