Pittsburgh @ Virginia Tech Recap
Virginia Tech defeated Pittsburgh 28-9 at Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg, VA on February 14, 2025. The Hokies piled up bonus points throughout the dual, turning what might have been a close match into a comfortable win with several major decisions and a fall.
Virginia Tech’s offense was led by the lower weights, where Eddie Ventresca dominated at 125 with a 15-1 major decision and Connor McGonagle followed with a 13-0 major at 133. Those two emphatic wins put real pressure on Pittsburgh by converting close bouts into four-point swings for the Hokies.
The clear turning point came at 174 when Lennox Wolak finished Luca Augustine by fall, delivering six team points and creating separation on the scoreboard. Later in the lineup Jimmy Mullen closed out the dual at heavyweight with a 13-4 major decision, another bonus that ensured the margin stayed wide.
In the end, five bonus-point victories accounted for the bulk of Virginia Tech’s 28 points and defined the meet. Pittsburgh was held to single-digit team scoring as the Hokies’ combinations of majors and a pin proved decisive in Blacksburg.
