Cornell @ Bucknell Recap
Cornell topped Bucknell 26-9 at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA on January 10, 2026. The big difference was Cornell’s bonus-point production combined with a couple of tight wins over ranked opponents that kept Bucknell from mounting a comeback.
The knockout blow came from Jaxon Joy, the #2 at 149 pounds, who put up a 17-2 technical fall for five team points. Meyer Shapiro, ranked #6 at 157, followed with a dominant 12-2 major decision over Bucknell’s #32 Cade Wirnsberger, adding four more bonus points. Greg Diakomihalis, listed at #26 at 125, also delivered a major decision, extending Cornell’s cushion with another four-team-point victory.
Simon Ruiz’s 5-2 decision over Bucknell’s #15 Myles Takats was one of the closer, higher-profile matches on the card, and those tight decisions mattered in keeping Bucknell within reach early. Still, Cornell’s sequence of bonus results created a gap Bucknell could not close; the three bonus wins accounted for 13 of Cornell’s 26 team points and undercut any momentum Bucknell built in other weights.
In the end the margin reflected Cornell’s ability to convert opportunities into extra points. Bucknell collected scoring across the lineup but could not match the tech fall and majors that decided the dual. Cornell leaves Lewisburg with a clear road victory and a win that hinged on a handful of decisive bouts.
