Stanford @ Cal Poly Recap
Stanford beat Cal Poly 33-12 in San Luis Obispo on November 16, 2024, handing the Mustangs a 21-point defeat in the Pac-12 versus ACC matchup.
The dual was decided by Stanford’s parade of bonus-point victories. At 141 pounds Jack Consiglio sealed a fall for six team points, and at 157 Grigor Cholakyan rolled to a 15-2 major decision, adding four more. Those two results gave Stanford an early cushion with high-value finishes rather than narrow decisions.
The margin widened when Stanford kept piling up bonus scoring higher on the card. Nikolas Stemmet dominated at 197, stopping Jarad Priest by technical fall, and Brook Byers closed the heavyweight picture with a fall over Trevor Tinker. Stemmet’s 17-2 tech and Byers’ pin were five and six team points respectively; combined with the earlier bonus wins, those matches accounted for 21 of Stanford’s team points and put the dual out of reach.
Beyond the scoreline, the standout elements were the variety of bonus outcomes and the emphatic nature of several victories. Consiglio and Byers provided pins, Cholakyan delivered a major, and Stemmet’s technical fall underscored Stanford’s control in multiple weight classes. Cal Poly managed solid work in other bouts to reach 12 team points, but the cluster of bonus-point results from Stanford ultimately decided the meet.
