Maryland @ Northwestern Recap

Northwestern topped Maryland 27-12 in Evanston on January 9, 2026, taking the dual behind a string of bonus-point wins that proved decisive. The Wildcats collected multiple majors and technical falls that created a gap Maryland could not overcome.

The meet featured an early upset when Northwestern’s Sean Spidle, ranked 23, took a 4-2 decision over Maryland’s No. 12 Braxton Brown. That result gave Northwestern an important advantage in the ranked matchup column and shifted momentum in their favor.

Northwestern then rolled up bonus points. Gunnar Myers dominated at 157 with a 15-0 technical fall, and Eddie Enright, listed at No. 33, followed with a 19-3 technical fall at 174. Those two tech falls produced a big swing in team scoring and essentially built the cushion Northwestern needed to control the dual.

Maryland answered with a highlight of its own when Branson John, the Terps’ No. 17, scored a fall at 197 for six team points, but the late rally was not enough. Northwestern’s earlier burst of bonus-point victories remained the turning point, and the Wildcats closed out the 27-12 victory in Evanston.
