Drexel wins 24-12 at Binghamton behind multiple bonus-point finishes
Majors and technical falls supplied the margin as Drexel took four bonus wins in a 24-12 dual at Binghamton (Vestal), improving the Dragons’ record.
VESTAL, N.Y. — Drexel defeated Binghamton 24-12 Friday at Binghamton University, using multiple bonus-point victories to build and preserve a lead.
The dual swung early when Kyle Waterman posted a 14-3 major decision at 133 and Jordan Soriano followed with a 9-0 major at 141, combining for eight team points and putting Drexel ahead.
Binghamton countered in the upper weights when No. 27 Carter Baer upset No. 16 Jasiah Queen 2-0 at 174. Baer recorded an escape in the third period and was awarded a riding-time point at the finish to create the final margin in that bout.
Drexel extended its advantage with two technical falls. No. 33 Ethan Wilson ended his 184-pound match by technical fall, running up a 19-3 total largely in the opening period. No. 27 Nate Schon closed the dual with an 18-3 technical fall at 285.
The dual opened with a narrow overtime match at 125 when Carson Wagner scored a sudden-death takedown to edge Oumar Tounkara 8-5. Binghamton collected two other decisions in the middle weights as Fin Nadeau won at 157 and Mikey Squires prevailed at 197 to keep the Bearcats within reach through the mid-card.
Deon Pleasant’s late takedown and a riding-time point delivered an 8-5 decision at 149, while Cody Walsh used a second-period takedown and a late escape to defeat Marco Albanese 5-2 at 165. Those outcomes produced single-bout swings but did not overcome Drexel’s bonus scoring.
Drexel’s athletics department noted the win improved the Dragons to 10–3 on the season and that the team earned bonus points in multiple matches. The Binghamton record against Drexel shows the Jan. 16 dual listed in the schools’ historical matchup log.
Drexel scored six of the dual’s ten bouts and took the bonus margin that decided the team result. Both programs will return to conference action next weekend.
