Harvard @ Columbia

Columbia prevailed over Harvard 29-15 in Columbia, NY on February 16, 2024, claiming a 14-point dual meet win in front of a home crowd. The final margin came down to bonus-point production, with Columbia turning several matches into extra-team points while Harvard picked up a couple of big results of its own.

Harvard earned two bonus victories that kept the dual competitive: Coleman Nogle dominated at 133 pounds with a 16-1 technical fall for five team points, and Jack Crook delivered a 15-6 major decision at 149 for four team points. Those results kept Harvard within striking distance through the middle weights, but they were not enough to overcome Columbia’s string of bonus scores.

Columbia answered with a collection of bonus wins that decided the meet. Nick Babin pinned Isaiah Adams at 125 for six points, Kyle Mosher pinned Josh Kim at 165 for six more, Aaron Ayzerov posted a 17-2 technical fall at 184 for five team points, and Vincent Mueller closed with a fall at 285 for another six. Three falls and a technical fall from Columbia accounted for the bulk of the scoring gap.

Ultimately the difference was Columbia’s ability to convert opportunities into bonus points. Harvard’s tech fall and major decision kept the match from getting out of hand early, but Columbia’s multiple bonus victories created the decisive scoring run and pushed the Lions to the 29-15 victory.
