Purdue @ Kent State Recap

Purdue defeated Kent State 31-10 in Kent, Ohio on January 3, 2025, collecting a win built on a string of bonus-point victories. The Boilermakers racked up technical falls and major decisions that created a gap Kent State could not close, while the Golden Flashes managed a few bright spots late.

A trio of Purdue technical falls did most of the damage. Dustin Norris handled the 133-pound bout with a 15-0 technical fall, Kade Law finished 157 pounds by technical fall at 17-2, and Brody Baumann closed his match at 174 with a 21-5 technical fall. Those three techs delivered a heavy dose of bonus points and left Kent State playing catch-up.

Kent State’s clearest response came at 165 pounds, where Carson Miller earned a 12-1 major decision over Stoney Buell for four team points. That result prevented a shutout on bonus production for the hosts, but it was not enough to offset Purdue’s multiple bonus wins across the lineup.

Other Boilermaker bonus victories—majors and technical falls at several weights—helped push the final margin to 21 points. Purdue’s ability to convert matches into bonus-point wins proved decisive, and Kent State couldn’t generate enough bonus scoring of its own to close the gap.
