Oregon State 21, North Dakota State 11 — Beavers pull away in Corvallis
Oregon State won five straight bouts from 165 through 285 to secure a senior-night victory over North Dakota State.
CORVALLIS, Ore. — Oregon State defeated North Dakota State 21-11 on Feb. 14 in Corvallis.
The Beavers closed the dual with five consecutive wins at 165, 174, 184, 197 and 285 to turn a split early slate into a double-digit margin.
No. 9 Maximo Renteria opened the match at 125 with a 9-4 decision over Ezekiel Witt. Renteria scored a 3-point takedown in the first period, added another takedown in the second and finished with a riding-time point that preserved the margin.
North Dakota State answered at 133 when Tristan Daugherty edged No. 31 Gabe Whisenhunt 2-1. Daugherty recorded an escape in the second period and was credited with a riding-time point in the third to supply the deciding margin.
The visitors produced the night’s most lopsided individual result at 149 when No. 23 Max Petersen of North Dakota State won by technical fall, beating No. 27 Noah Tolentino 19-4. Petersen accumulated multiple takedowns across the three periods to reach the 15-point threshold.
Gavin Drexler kept North Dakota State competitive with a 5-2 decision at 157, but Oregon State regained control beginning at 165.
No. 23 Matthew Olguin opened the decisive stretch with an 8-2 decision at 165. No. 27 Daschle Lamer followed with an 8-3 win at 174. TJ McDonnell then recorded a 5-2 decision at 184 after a third-period reversal and a later takedown.
No. 8 Justin Rademacher provided another margin at 197, posting an 8-5 decision that included a third-period escape and takedown. Khale McDonnell closed the dual at heavyweight with a 9-7 decision, the bout tied 6-6 after two periods before McDonnell’s third-period takedown produced the final margin.
Oregon State’s athletics site described the result as a senior-night victory for the Beavers. North Dakota State had entered the trip with multiple ranked wrestlers on its probable lineup, including Petersen and Ezekiel Witt, per the visiting team's pre-match release.
