Appalachian State tops Gardner‑Webb 25-14 in Boone
Mountaineers collected multiple bonus-point victories, including a pin by No. 30 Kaden Keiser and an 18-2 technical fall by Anthony Conetta, to secure a 25-14 SoCon dual victory on Feb. 22.
BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State defeated Gardner‑Webb 25-14 on Feb. 22 at Varsity Gym, using a pin, a technical fall and three major decisions to tilt the dual meet in its favor.
Gardner‑Webb opened with two decisions. Tyson Lane beat Cooper Foster 7-4 at 125 pounds, using a 3-point takedown in Period 1 and a four-point nearfall in Period 2 for the decisive margin.
No. 14 T.K. Davis followed with a 13-6 decision at 133, building a multi-period lead with takedowns in the first two periods and adding a riding-time point in the third to finish at 13.
Appalachian State answered at 141 when Aldo Hernandez rallied after an early 3-point takedown by Dominic Ditullio and closed out an 8-4 decision with a third-period takedown.
No. 30 Kaden Keiser recorded a pin at 149. Keiser opened with a first-period takedown, then in the second added a takedown, a four-point nearfall and an additional point before the fall, leaving an 11-1 tally at the stoppage.
Gardner‑Webb gained a major decision at 157 when Joseph Giordano beat Jeremiah Price 10-2, but Appalachian State responded immediately. Anthony Conetta ended the 165-pound bout by technical fall, 18-2, after building a lead with a second-period nearfall and continued pressure into the third.
The middle and upper weights traded bonus points. Gardner‑Webb’s Isaiah Gurerrero took a 10-2 major decision at 174, opening the bout with a takedown and a four-point nearfall and later earning a riding-time point. Appalachian State’s Tomas Brooker answered at 184 with a 9-0 major decision, adding third-period scoring and a riding-time point to seal the margin.
Logan Eller added a 9-2 decision at 197 for Appalachian State, and Stephan Monchery closed the dual with an 11-2 major decision at 285, giving the Mountaineers the final cushion to finish 25-14.
The meeting in Boone was part of Appalachian State’s home schedule on Feb. 22. Gardner‑Webb’s athletics history shows the program remains without a victory vs. Appalachian State through this meeting.
