Pittsburgh @ Bucknell Recap

Pittsburgh defeated Bucknell 28-10 in Lewisburg, Pa., on January 17, 2025, handing the Bison an 18-point loss in the dual at Bucknell University. The Panthers’ margin came largely from multiple bonus-point victories that separated the teams on the scoreboard.

Nick Babin’s 15-0 technical fall at 125 pounds and Finn Solomon’s 19-3 technical fall at 149 were the biggest individual scoring bursts, each worth five team points and forcing Bucknell to play catch-up. Dayton Pitzer’s 11-1 major decision at 285 provided another four-point swing that helped seal the outcome. Those bonus results gave Pittsburgh a scoring cushion key to the final tally.

Bucknell did get a high-impact result when Kurt Phipps knocked off Tyler Chappell 13-1 by major decision at 133 for four team points, making it a competitive match on paper. Still, Pittsburgh’s collection of two technical falls and three major decisions outpaced that single bonus for the Bison and proved decisive.

When the bonus-point math is totaled, Pittsburgh accounted for five bonus wins while Bucknell managed one. Those extra points made the difference in the 28-10 final, leaving Bucknell with work to do and Pittsburgh with a comfortable dual victory.
