Kent State @ Ohio Recap

Ohio defeated Kent State 29-11 in a MAC dual at Ohio University in Athens on Feb. 7, 2025. The Bobcats collected enough bonus points to build an insurmountable lead, while Kent State’s lone big result wasn’t enough to change the outcome.

Kent State’s Jordan Decatur supplied a major highlight for the Golden Flashes, dominating Prestyn Parks 21-6 by technical fall to earn five team points and keep Kent State competitive on the scoreboard. That performance was one of the match’s few momentum shifts in favor of the visitors.

The deciding factor was Ohio’s string of bonus-point victories. Derek Raike turned in a 20-3 technical fall at 149 pounds and Garrett Thompson ran up a 16-0 technical fall at 174 for two more five-point swings. Jordan Greer closed matters at heavyweight with a fall, worth six team points, that sealed the final margin. Those bonus results, along with an earlier major decision and other Ohio decisions, created the separation that produced the 18-point win.

In all, Ohio’s ability to convert opportunities into bonus points proved decisive, while Kent State’s Decatur was a standout individual effort. The Bobcats leave Athens with a team win built on multiple bonus victories, and Kent State will look to build on individual flashes as the season continues.
