Appalachian State @ Chattanooga Recap
Appalachian State Men's Wrestling topped Chattanooga Men's Wrestling 28-13 at the University of Tennessee - Chattanooga on February 11, 2024. The visitors collected the bulk of their points through bonus-point victories, while Chattanooga answered with a pair of emphatic results of their own.
Chattanooga’s biggest moment came at 133 pounds, where Blake Boarman pinned Ethan Oakley for six team points, and Isaiah Powe followed with a 9-1 major decision at 141 to keep the Mocs in the match. Those wins supplied Chattanooga with their most valuable scoring chances and prevented the dual from slipping away early.
Appalachian State, however, piled up bonus scoring across multiple weight classes. Chad Bellis posted a 10-0 major at 125, and Cody Bond’s 12-2 major at 149 and Will Miller’s 12-4 major at 165 continued to rack up extra points for the Mountaineers. The turning point was Tomas Brooker’s 15-0 technical fall at 184, a five-point swing that widened the gap and put the visitors firmly in control. Carson Floyd’s 12-3 major at 197 and Jacob Sartorio’s 8-0 major at 285 added the finishing margins.
In the end Appalachian State’s string of bonus-point victories, led by the technical fall at 184 and multiple majors in the upper weights, made the difference in a 28-13 road win. Chattanooga’s pin and major kept the match competitive, but App State’s depth for bonus points decided the dual.
