Iowa @ Wisconsin Recap

Iowa Men’s Wrestling blanked Wisconsin 45-0 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison on January 12, 2025, delivering a shutout built almost entirely on bonus-point wins.

The Hawkeyes collected seven bonus victories, including four technical falls, two pins and a major decision, which erased any chance for a Wisconsin comeback. That heavy bonus production separated the dual from the start and turned what might have been a close dual into a one-sided result by the end.

A few performances stood out. Michael Caliendo’s 21-6 technical fall at 165 piled up bonus points and momentum for Iowa, while Gabe Arnold’s fall at 184 and Stephen Buchanan II’s pin at 197 each generated six-team points and left Wisconsin with no response. Up front, Ben Kueter closed things at heavyweight with an 8-0 major decision that added extra scoring and sealed the shutout.

Iowa’s concentrated run of tech falls, pins and a major decision removed any suspense and accounted for the full 45 points. Wisconsin was never able to register a team point, and the way Iowa converted chances into bonus points made the difference on the scoreboard.
