Indiana @ Michigan State Recap

Indiana picked up a commanding 35-3 win over Michigan State on Jan. 24 at Michigan State University in East Lansing. The Hoosiers’ upside came from a barrage of bonus-point victories that turned a tightly contested dual into a rout.

Angelo Rini’s 133-pound technical fall over Andy Hampton, 20-5, supplied five team points and set an early tone for decisive offense. Tyler Lillard’s pin at 165 pounds delivered the full six-team-point swing that put added distance between the teams, and Donnell Washington’s 19-3 technical fall at 184 pounds pushed Indiana’s bonus total even higher.

The mat domination continued at heavyweight, where Jacob Bullock earned a 14-4 major decision over Max Vanadia for four more team points. Those four bonus wins alone accounted for 20 of Indiana’s 35 points and created the clear turning point in the dual, forcing Michigan State to play catch-up and limiting its opportunities to chip away on the scoreboard.

Outside those feature results, Indiana collected the remaining points through additional decisions, while Michigan State could manage only a few points overall. With that collection of tech falls, a pin, and a major, Indiana left East Lansing with a lopsided Big Ten victory and a confident night of high-scoring, bonus-fueled wrestling.
