MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota defeated Michigan State 42-6 at the Bierman Field Athletic Building on Feb. 15.

No. 12 Jore Volk opened the dual with a 9-2 decision at 125 pounds, scoring a first-period takedown and adding a third-period takedown and a riding-time point to seal the margin. Match logs show Volk recorded takedowns with a late first-period score at the 24-second mark and a third-period takedown at the 6-second mark.

Michigan State’s two victories came at 133 and 197. Caleb Weiand won 4-2 at 133 after an early 3-point takedown and a second-period escape that preserved the lead. Kael Wisler, listed No. 23 at 197, earned a 5-2 decision in triple overtime, finishing the tiebreaker with an overtime takedown to decide the bout.

Minnesota produced multiple bonus-point wins that swung the dual. No. 9 Vance VomBaur recorded a technical fall, 20-4, at 141, and No. 4 Max McEnelly ended his match by technical fall, 19-4, at 184. McEnelly’s scoring included a string of first-period takedowns, and the bout log identifies a takedown in the first period at the 12-second mark that was part of the sequence that produced the technical fall.

The Gophers also posted three consecutive pins in the middle weights. Drew Roberts, listed No. 24 at 149, recorded a fall in a match scored officially 9-8. Charlie Millard, No. 19 at 157, and No. 13 Andrew Sparks at 165 each recorded falls, giving Minnesota a run of bonus points that established a decisive lead.

At 174, No. 22 Ethan Riddle held off Michigan State’s Connor O'Neill, 7-6. Riddle used a second-period reversal and an escape that produced a two-point cushion late in the second period; O'Neill’s third-period escape cut the margin to one but time expired before a comeback.

The meet featured close moments beyond the team score. The 197-pound match required three overtimes before Wisler’s decisive takedown; the 174- and 125-pound bouts were decided by single-score margins that held through the final whistle. Michigan State’s win by decision at 133 and Wisler’s overtime victory provided the Spartans’ only points on the day.

Minnesota entered the weekend listed among the ranked teams for several weights and collected bonus points across the lineup. Michigan State’s recap noted the result as the Spartans’ final Big Ten dual of the regular season and listed team context for MSU’s upcoming schedule.

The dual used the Bierman Field Athletic Building as the site and was held Feb. 15 in Minneapolis.
