Wyoming @ Utah Valley Recap
Wyoming defeated Utah Valley 22-12 at Utah Valley University on January 20, 2024. The Cowboys collected enough bonus points in key matchups to separate themselves from the host team and leave Orem with a 10-point victory.
The decisive moments came in three bonus-point wins. At 125 pounds Jore Volk rolled to a 15-0 technical fall, not only dominating the scoreboard but also delivering five team points. Garrett Ricks followed with a 16-5 major decision at 133 pounds, and Sloan Swan added a 17-7 major decision at 157 pounds. Those three bouts combined for 13 of Wyoming’s 22 team points, the swing that ultimately decided the dual.
Utah Valley was competitive in the remaining bouts but could not match the bonus scoring that Wyoming produced in the featured matches. The majors and the technical fall provided the Cowboys the scoring cushion they needed, and Utah Valley’s efforts in other weights fell short of overcoming that gap. The 10-point final margin reflected how valuable bonus-point victories were in this dual.
