Cornell tops Brown 38-15 behind string of falls and technical falls
At the Friedman Wrestling Center in Ithaca, Cornell collected multiple pins and technical falls to build a margin Brown could not overcome.
ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell defeated Brown 38-15 at the Friedman Wrestling Center on Jan. 25, 2026.
Cornell opened a decisive margin with a sequence of bonus-point results that came early in the dual. The Big Red recorded falls and technical falls at several weights, producing a run that put Brown behind before the second half of the lineup.
Joe Sciarrone opened the scoring at 125 with a 17-0 technical fall. No. 23 Brett Ungar followed with a fall at 133, and No. 6 Vince Cornella finished his 141-pound match by pin. No. 2 Jaxon Joy recorded a 17-1 technical fall at 149, and No. 7 Meyer Shapiro posted a 17-0 technical fall at 157. Those bonus results left Cornell comfortably ahead midway through the dual.
Brown answered at 165 when No. 28 Max Norman pinned No. 33 Louie Cerchio, but Cornell replied immediately as No. 2 Simon Ruiz recorded a fall at 174. Later, No. 16 Christian Hansen closed his match at 184 by technical fall, further widening the gap.
Brown collected contested wins in the late order. At 197, No. 19 Andrew Reall beat Aiden Hanning 1-0 on a stalling penalty. At heavyweight, No. 32 Alex Semenenko upset No. 29 Ashton Davis, a 2-2 decision after overtime that produced three team points for Brown but arrived too late to shift the dual’s trajectory.
Cornell’s conversion of multiple matches into falls and technical falls, rather than close decisions, supplied the bonus points that decided the dual. Brown won several individual contests but could not erase the margin created by Cornell’s string of major outcomes.
The dual was part of a home doubleheader day for Cornell in Ithaca; the host program’s recap of the afternoon noted the team won five of the first six bouts against Brown with bonus points to build the early lead.
The Friedman Wrestling Center hosted the Jan. 25 meet, which closed with the 38-15 official team score recorded in the event summary and bout results.
