Northern Iowa @ West Virginia

Northern Iowa knocked off West Virginia 29-10 at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV on February 1, 2025. The Panthers piled up bonus points across multiple weight classes, and those extra-team points proved to be the deciding factor in a wide-margin victory.

Julian Farber’s 21-5 technical fall at 133 pounds was an early swing, worth five team points, and Parker Keckeisen added another technical fall at 184 with a 20-5 result for five more points. Ryder Downey delivered a major decision at 157, beating Sasha Gavronsky 10-1 for four team points. Those three bonus results gave Northern Iowa a large cushion that West Virginia struggled to overcome.

West Virginia’s standout moment came at 165, where Peyton Hall downed Jack Thomsen 15-2 by major decision and picked up four team points to keep the Mountaineers competitive on the sheet. Still, Hall’s big win was not enough to counter the accumulation of Northern Iowa bonus victories.

The clincher came at heavyweight when Lance Runyon finished Wilson Spires by fall, a six-point swing that effectively sealed the 29-10 final. Between two technical falls, a major, and a pin, Northern Iowa’s bonus-point production was the clear difference in this Big 12 dual.
