Iowa vs. Princeton Recap

Iowa Men's Wrestling defeated Princeton Men's Wrestling 39-3 on December 6, 2024; location unknown. The dual never really tightened after Iowa began racking up bonus points across the middle weights, and Princeton was unable to generate the offensive bursts needed to cut into the lead.

The Hawkeyes finished with seven bonus-point victories, including a string of technical falls and major decisions that created the separation. Iowa’s offense produced a steady stream of early bonus scoring, and those high-value results were the deciding factor in the 36-point margin.

Several bouts stood out. At 149 pounds, Kyle Parco put up a technical fall, beating Christopher Martino 17-2 and delivering five team points. Michael Caliendo’s 19-3 technical fall at 165 over Hudson Hightower similarly added five points and helped widen the gap. Nelson Brands continued the run at 174 with a 20-4 technical fall, and Stephen Buchanan II closed out the stretch with an 18-3 technical fall at 197, each tech fall worth five team points and each one deflating any chance of a Princeton comeback.

Iowa also picked up major decisions at 133 and 184, with Drake Ayala winning 13-2 and Gabe Arnold taking a 19-6 decision, further padding the score. In short, the bonus-point barrage in the middle and upper weights decided the dual, turning what might have been a competitive meet into a dominant 39-3 victory for Iowa.
