Nebraska blanks Northwestern 47-0 behind string of technical falls and a major
LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska piled up bonus points across multiple weights to record a 47-0 shutout of Northwestern at the University of Nebraska on Feb. 8.
LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska blanked Northwestern 47-0 at the University of Nebraska on Feb. 8, building an insurmountable lead with five technical falls, a major decision and two forfeits.
No. 3 Brock Hardy set the tone with an 18-2 technical fall at 141 pounds. Jacob Van Dee followed with a 20-4 technical fall at 133 and No. 14 Chance Lamer added a 22-6 technical fall at 149 as Nebraska opened a substantial margin in the lightweight ranks.
Northwestern forfeited the 157- and 165-pound bouts, and No. 4 Christopher Minto provided Nebraska’s closest contested outcome with a 6-3 decision at 174. Minto trailed after the first period, used a second-period near fall to close the gap, then escaped and added a late takedown in the third to secure the decision.
No. 6 Silas Allred recorded a 24-8 technical fall at 184, posting multiple takedowns and earning a riding-time point that factored into the margin. Camden McDanel, No. 10 at 197, won by technical fall, 23-5, and No. 4 AJ Ferrari closed the dual with a 17-4 major decision at heavyweight.
The only match that approached late drama was the opening bout. No. 27 Kael Lauridsen defeated No. 26 Dedrick Navarro 11-6 at 125. Lauridsen opened with a takedown and a three-point near fall, Navarro closed the gap with takedowns, but Lauridsen recorded a decisive third-period takedown to finish the match.
Nebraska’s string of bonus-point outcomes — five technical falls and a major — removed any realistic chance of a Northwestern comeback by the mid-to-late weights. The team’s home-day festivities and senior recognitions coincided with the meet in Lincoln.
The Cornhuskers improved their dual scoreline through repeated bonus actions, while Northwestern was unable to register a team point. Nebraska will return to Big Ten action later in the week; Northwestern heads back on the road after the blanking in Lincoln.
