Chattanooga vs. VMI Recap
Chattanooga men's wrestling beat Virginia Military Institute 29-11 in a Southern Conference dual on January 25, 2025; location unknown. The margin was driven by Chattanooga’s ability to finish matches with bonus points and one decisive fall that the Keydets could not match.
Ty Tice’s 15-0 technical fall at 125 pounds and Eli Knight’s 9-1 major decision at 141 provided two of Chattanooga’s biggest swings, accounting for nine team points between them. Those victories, along with major decisions at 157 and 174, built a cushion that forced VMI to chase points throughout the session.
Chattanooga capped its bonus collection with a pivotal fall at 184, when Kamdyn Munro pinned Ethan Flowers for six team points. VMI’s Toby Schoffstall answered with a 21-3 technical fall at 197, delivering a major boost for the Keydets late in the lineup, but it was too little to erase Chattanooga’s advantage. In total Chattanooga collected five bonus-point wins, a margin-defining factor in the dual.
With those bonus results deciding the outcome, Chattanooga left with an 18-point victory in SoCon competition, while VMI relied on Schoffstall’s dominant performance to keep the score respectable.
