Purdue @ Northwestern Recap
Purdue Men's Wrestling beat Northwestern Men's Wrestling 29-11 in Illinois on February 9, 2024. The Boilermakers pulled away through multiple bonus-point victories that ultimately decided the dual, leaving Northwestern with too much ground to make up despite a dominant performance at one weight.
Dustin Norris delivered a major decision at 133 pounds, 9-1, and Christian White followed with another major at 141, 12-4. Those two four-point wins gave Purdue a valuable cushion and swung the team scoreboard in their favor with high-value decisions rather than narrow margins.
Northwestern answered in spectacular fashion at 149 when Sam Cartella ran out Marcos Polanco by technical fall, 15-0, for five team points and a momentum jolt for the Wildcat lineup. That offensive burst, however, was matched and exceeded on the Purdue side when Brody Baumann recorded a fall at 174, worth six team points. Baumann’s pin proved to be the turning point that sealed the dual for Purdue.
Bonus points were the story of the night: three bonus wins for Purdue and one for Northwestern shaped the final margin. The extra team points from the majors and the fall gave Purdue the 18-point cushion they needed to finish 29-11.
