North Carolina @ NC State Recap

NC State topped North Carolina 24-10 in Raleigh on January 23, 2026, as the Wolfpack collected the bonus points that decided the dual. The margin came down to a handful of high-impact results where NC State turned tight matchups into majors and protected wins in ranked tilts.

Koy Buesgens delivered one of those bonus blows, posting a 15-2 major decision at 149 to swing four team points to the Wolfpack. Will Denny doubled down with an upset major of his own, the #11 Denny scoring a 10-2 major over #10 Bryce Hepner at 165. Those bonus-point victories erased room for a comeback and separated the teams on the scoreboard. At heavyweight, #2 Isaac Trumble put the finishing touch on the Wolfpack’s margin with an 8-0 major decision over #23 Nolan Neves.

North Carolina’s best answers were a tight upset and a big solo performance. Luke Simcox, ranked #12, edged #10 Ryan Jack 2-1 at 141 to notch an upset decision for the Tar Heels, and that resistance kept the dual competitive. NC State also collected valuable decisions from ranked wrestlers earlier in the card, including #5 Vincent Robinson’s 4-2 win and #19 Zach Redding’s 8-2 decision, but it was the three Wolfpack majors that proved decisive.

In the end the bonus points made the difference. North Carolina fought through a couple of ranked upsets and a major on the blue line, but the combination of Buesgens, Denny and Trumble’s majors gave NC State a 24-10 victory in Raleigh.
