Princeton tops Penn 24-14 at Jadwin Gymnasium

Princeton collected six victories, including a pin of No. 7 CJ Composto and major decisions by No. 15 Marc-Anthony McGowan, No. 22 Ty Whalen and Holden Garcia, to beat Penn in an Ivy League dual on Feb. 14.

PRINCETON, N.J. — Princeton beat Penn 24-14 at Jadwin Gymnasium on Feb. 14.

The Tigers recorded six wins across the card. Matthew Martino supplied the decisive swing with a pin of No. 7 CJ Composto at 141 pounds, while No. 15 Marc-Anthony McGowan’s 11-2 major decision at 125 and Ethan Rivera’s 5-3 decision at 133 helped build a lead Princeton carried to the finish.

Martino converted a second-period sequence — a 2-point reversal, an escape and a 3-point takedown — into the fall, ending the bout by pin.

Princeton’s scoring included three major decisions (125, 165, 174), one fall (141) and two decisions (133, 184), which accounted for the 24 team points. No. 22 Ty Whalen won 15-2 at 165 and Holden Garcia posted an 11-2 major at 174. Xavier Giles held on for a 4-3 decision at 184.

Penn’s four winners were No. 11 Cross Wasilewski, No. 17 Jude Swisher, Martin Cosgrove and John Pardo. Wasilewski defeated Eligh Rivera 11-2 by major decision at 149 and Swisher beat Rocco Camillaci 15-3 by major decision at 157.

Cosgrove opened his 197-pound decision with a first-period 3-point takedown and added a riding-time point to finish 5-1. Pardo’s third-period takedown provided the margin in a 4-2 decision at 285.

Ethan Rivera opened his bout with a first-period three-point takedown and a third-period reversal produced the final margin in his 5-3 decision over Evan Mougalian.

Penn’s athletics release noted the Quakers are 6-4 overall and 2-3 in Ivy League play after the loss and will host Rider on Feb. 19 to close the regular season.
