Arizona State turned three bonus-point wins into the margin it needed after Northern Colorado opened the dual with an early injury default in Greeley.

GREELEY, Colo. — Arizona State beat Northern Colorado 27-16 on Jan. 18, 2026, at the University of Northern Colorado.

Northern Colorado opened the dual with a 125-pound injury default when Damian Moreno was removed and Bryson Valdez was awarded the win, giving the Bears an immediate 6-0 advantage.

The hosts extended their edge when No. 13 Dominick Serrano won the 133-pound bout 11-2 by major decision. Serrano added a third-period takedown at the 28-second mark and claimed a riding-time point to complete the margin.

Arizona State seized momentum in the middle weights. No. 3 Kaleb Larkin recorded a three-point takedown in the first period and finished by fall at 157 pounds, swinging six team points to the visitors. Daniel Miranda followed with an 8-5 decision at 149, securing a late takedown in the third to close the bout.

Arizona State built separation through bonus scoring later in the dual. No. 13 Nicco Ruiz used multiple takedowns and a second-period nearfall to compile a 19-3 technical fall at 165 that counted for five team points. Ben Szuba added an 8-0 major decision at heavyweight, with all scoring coming in the second period, for four more team points.

Northern Colorado recorded key wins elsewhere. Mahonri Rushton beat No. 33 Shay Addison 11-7 at 184, and Murphy Menke held off Leo Tukhlynovych 5-1 at 174, but the Bears did not produce the bonus results needed to offset Arizona State’s pin, technical fall and major decision.

Arizona State also picked up a forfeit at 141 and a 2-0 decision from No. 28 Colton Hawks at 197, which helped preserve the visitors’ lead through the back half of the lineup.

Arizona State’s collection of bonus-point victories provided the decisive margin in a dual that featured early home advantages and several momentum swings in the middle of the card.
