Anderson Pin and Two SIUE Majors Fuel Tight 21-14 Dual in Edwardsville

A freshman fall and two bonus majors swung the dual; Central Michigan’s late cushion held as the Chippewas won on the road.

Central Michigan edged SIU Edwardsville 21-14 in a Mid-American Conference dual at First Community Arena in Edwardsville.

The tone was set in the opening bout when freshman Archer Anderson finished by fall at 125 pounds. Transcript data shows Anderson overcame a 12-point deficit and used a four-point nearfall sequence in Period 1 before securing the pin, a six-team-point swing that proved pivotal to the final margin.

SIUE answered through bonus scoring in the middle weights. No. 3 Caleb Tyus posted an 8-0 major decision at 149 to put four points on the board, and Brock Woodcock delivered a 15-3 major at 165 that the ranking data marks as an upset over No. 21 Chandler Amaker. Those two majors supplied the Cougars’ biggest burst of offense and kept the dual close.

Central Michigan won three of the final four bouts to close the night. The Chippewas got a 5-4 victory from Tyler Swiderski in his return to the lineup and closed out the dual with decisions at the upper weights to preserve the road win.

The three bonus-point bouts — Anderson’s fall and the two SIUE majors — were the decisive sequences that produced the swings separating the teams. SIUE suffered its first Mid-American Conference dual loss, while Central Michigan collected a key conference road victory as both squads move into the rest of the February slate.

In short, a comeback pin to open the night and two mid-dual majors defined a back-and-forth meeting that was decided by bonus points rather than wide margins of match-by-match dominance.
