Pittsburgh @ Duke Recap
Pittsburgh defeated Duke 36-9 in a dual at Duke University in Durham, NC on Feb. 2, 2024. The Panthers pulled away with a barrage of bonus-point victories through the middle weights that left Duke playing catch-up for most of the night.
The turning stretch came in the 133–149 range, where Vincent Santaniello ran up a 19-3 technical fall at 133 and Cole Matthews followed with a 20-4 technical fall at 141. Finn Solomon then delivered a fall at 149, and those three bonus results generated a decisive swing in team points that Pittsburgh never relinquished. Beyond those matches, the Panthers tacked on additional majors and technical falls to keep the pressure on.
Duke’s highlight came at 125, where Logan Agin scored a fall over Colton Camacho to pick up six team points and stave off an even wider deficit. That pin was one of the few times Duke grabbed bonus points; Pittsburgh’s ability to finish matches and earn majors and techs across multiple classes ultimately made the difference.
By the end the Panthers had a 27-point margin, 36-9, thanks to superior bonus-point production and depth through the lineup. Pittsburgh’s run of finishes in the mid-weights proved the decisive factor in the dual at Duke on Feb. 2.
