Rutgers Men’s Wrestling defeated Michigan State Men’s Wrestling 28-7 at the Scarlet Knights in Piscataway, N.J., on February 14, 2025. The Scarlet Knights piled up bonus points in multiple bouts, and those extra-team points proved decisive in a match that never tightened after the midway point.

The biggest single result came at 141 pounds, where Joseph Olivieri ran up a 22-5 technical fall, handing Rutgers five team points and swinging momentum decisively in Rutgers’ favor. Dylan Shawver added a major decision at 133 pounds, winning 18-7 to deliver another four team points and keep the pressure on Michigan State.

Jackson Turley’s 14-0 major decision at 174 pounds further pushed Rutgers ahead; back-to-back bonus wins in those key matches created a gap Michigan State could not overcome. Those bonus outcomes, more than the number of individual decisions, were the primary difference in the dual and represented the turning stretch that decided the meeting.

Michigan State’s lone bonus answer came from Remy Cotton at 197 pounds, where he beat John Poznanski 11-2 by major decision and earned four team points for the Spartans. Cotton’s effort cut into the deficit but arrived too late to change the result. In the end, Rutgers’ trio of bonus victories built a lead large enough to carry them to a 28-7 triumph.
