Hofstra @ VMI Recap
Hofstra beat Virginia Military Institute 28-6 in Lexington, Va., on January 13, 2024, handing the Keydets a heavy deficit largely built on bonus-point wins. The Pride collected three bonus victories that made the difference, turning otherwise close bouts into a decisive team margin.
At heavyweight, Keaton Kluever delivered the biggest individual swing, beating Tyler Mousaw by technical fall, 20-4, for five team points. That kind of dominant finish not only padded the score but forced VMI to chase bonus answers they were unable to produce. Kluever’s outing stood out for its runaway scoring and efficient work to close the match early.
In the middleweights, Jurius Clark and Jake Slotnick added two more bonus results. Clark topped Josh Yost 12-3 at 157 pounds by major decision for four team points, and Slotnick did the same at 165, defeating Luke Hart 11-1. Those back-to-back majors created a scoring run that put Hofstra comfortably ahead and left VMI with limited opportunities to counter.
With the three bonus wins accounting for 13 of Hofstra’s 28 team points, the Pride controlled the dual even as individual decisions filled out the rest of the scoreboard. VMI was held to six team points and could not generate a bonus response, so the combination of a technical fall and a pair of majors was the clear deciding factor in the 22-point final margin.
