Appalachian State @ The Citadel

Appalachian State topped The Citadel 31-3 in a Southern Conference dual at The Citadel in Charleston, SC on January 12, 2025. The Mountaineers piled up bonus points to turn what might have been a close meet into a decisive road victory.

What decided the dual was Appalachian State's four major decisions. Chad Bellis went 11-1 at 133 pounds for a major decision, and Aldo Hernandez followed with a 14-3 major at 141. Those bonus-point wins gave the Mountaineers an early edge and forced The Citadel to chase the scoring.

Luke Uliano’s 8-0 major decision at 174 and Stephan Monchery’s 11-3 major at heavyweight added two more bonus-point victories, providing the margin that settled the match. The cluster of majors produced the scoring run that put the match out of reach; those 16 bonus points were the backbone of Appalachian State’s 31 points.

The Citadel managed just three team points on the night and could not overcome the string of majors against them. Appalachian State’s road performance left little doubt in the final 31-3 result.
