Columbia @ LIU Recap
Columbia used a string of bonus-point wins to roll past Long Island University 35-6 at Long Island University in Brookville, N.Y., on January 3, 2026. The Lions’ depth and extra-point production produced a 29-point margin that LIU could not overcome.
Sulayman Bah’s dominant 16-0 technical fall gave Columbia an early burst of bonus points, and Lorenzo Frezza (#22) followed with a 19-4 technical fall to keep the pressure on. The dual featured an upset when LIU’s Anthony D’Alesio (#33) knocked off Columbia’s Aaron Ayzerov (#16) 4-3 at 184, a big individual result for the Blackbirds but not enough to swing the team outcome. Columbia’s offense kept coming, and Jack Wehmeyer (#26) sealed crucial team points with a fall at 197.
Long Island did get a major boost from Jordan Barry’s fall at 165, but Columbia countered across multiple weight classes with bonus scoring, including pins and a late major decision at heavyweight by Vincent Mueller (11-2). Nick Fine (#33) also recorded a fall at 174, underscoring Columbia’s ability to finish matches. Those teams of bonus wins, more than the close decisions, decided the dual.
Columbia’s collection of technical falls, pins, and a major carried them to the decisive victory, while LIU’s upsets and a key pin were bright spots in an otherwise one-sided team score. The result highlighted Columbia’s depth and ability to accumulate bonus points across several weights.
