Iowa @ Penn State Recap
Penn State topped Iowa 30-8 in a Big Ten dual at University Park on January 31, 2025. The Nittany Lions built a decisive advantage with multiple bonus-point wins that Iowa could not overcome.
A handful of bonus victories supplied the bulk of Penn State’s scoring. Luke Lilledahl put up a 22-6 technical fall at 125 pounds for five team points, and Mitchell Mesenbrink added another technical fall at 165 with a 19-4 result. Up front, Greg Kerkvliet closed matters in the heavyweight slot with a 12-1 major decision that delivered four more points and helped put the dual out of reach.
Iowa’s highlight came at 133, where Drake Ayala answered with a 19-4 technical fall to keep the Hawkeyes competitive and add five points. Despite that effort, Penn State’s accumulation of bonus-point wins proved the difference, turning what might have been a close meet into a comfortable margin.
In the end, Penn State’s combination of technical falls and a major decision produced the separation on the scoreboard, and the Nittany Lions left State College with a 30-8 victory over Iowa.
