The Citadel @ Appalachian State Recap
Appalachian State Men’s Wrestling defeated The Citadel Men’s Wrestling 33-4 in North Carolina on January 21, 2024. The visitors’ advantage came from a string of bonus-point wins that turned a close dual into a comfortable margin.
A handful of decisive results swung the team score. Chad Bellis picked up a 12-2 major decision at 125 pounds and Will Miller added an 8-0 major decision at 165 to build momentum. Luke Uliano’s 16-0 technical fall at 174 was the biggest blow, worth five team points and serving as the game-changing result that widened the gap. Jacob Sartorio and Tomas Brooker also delivered major decisions at heavyweight and 184 pounds, respectively, pushing Appalachian State well clear.
The Citadel’s only points came at 141, where Jacob Silka beat Riley Edwards 10-2 by major decision. That win prevented a shutout but was not enough to counter Appalachian State’s run of bonus victories across multiple weights.
Appalachian State’s depth and ability to convert matches into bonus points produced the final 33-4 score and a 29-point margin of victory. The tech fall and several majors were the decisive factors in the dual.
