California Baptist @ Northern Colorado Recap
Northern Colorado beat California Baptist 27-12 at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley on January 24, 2025. The Pioneers pulled away thanks to multiple bonus-point results that swung the team score in their favor.
Northern Colorado got a major lift from Stevo Poulin, who won by technical fall 18-3 at 125 pounds for five team points. That victory, coupled with Andrew Alirez’s fall at 141 pounds which produced six team points, created a sizable gap that California Baptist had trouble closing. Vinny Zerban’s 14-2 major decision at 157 pounds added four more team points and helped secure the margin.
California Baptist did answer with two bonus wins of its own. Hunter Leake scored a 16-0 technical fall at 133 pounds for five team points, and Paul Kelly collected a 9-0 major decision at 149 pounds for four team points. Those wins kept the Lancers competitive in individual flights, but they were not enough to overcome Northern Colorado’s trio of bonus performances.
The dual was decided by bonus-point wrestling more than narrow decisions. Northern Colorado’s combination of a technical fall, a pin, and a major decision produced the decisive run, while California Baptist’s tech fall and major provided resistance but fell short. Final score 27-12 in favor of Northern Colorado.
