Iowa State @ South Dakota State Recap
Iowa State Men's Wrestling edged South Dakota State Men's Wrestling 20-15 in Brookings, SD on February 14, 2025 at South Dakota State University. The dual came down to three bonus-point wins that separated the visitors from the home team in a close meet.
Evan Frost delivered a major decision at 133 pounds, topping Derrick Cardinal 11-3 and earning four team points. A bit later Jacob Frost recorded a fall over Logan Swensen, the pin worth six team points and swinging momentum in Iowa State’s favor. Paniro Johnson added another major at 149, beating Colin Dupill 14-4 for four more team points. Those three bonus victories combined for 14 of Iowa State’s 20 team points.
That collection of bonus points was the clear difference. Outside of the majors and the fall, the dual remained tight, and South Dakota State stayed within striking distance, but Iowa State’s ability to secure extra-team points in the key matches kept the scoreboard tilted toward the visitors. The 6-point swing from the fall, sandwiched between two majors, served as the pivotal stretch that turned a close contest into a 5-point win for Iowa State.
Iowa State leaves Brookings with a road victory on the books, while South Dakota State fell short despite keeping several bouts competitive. The three bonus outcomes were the most decisive pieces of the dual.
