Virginia defeats Duke 28-9 in Durham
The Cavaliers posted five bonus-point wins — two technical falls and three major decisions — to claim an ACC dual at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
DURHAM, N.C., Jan. 31, 2026 — Virginia defeated Duke 28-9 in an ACC dual meet Friday at Duke University, collecting five bonus-point victories that included two technical falls and three major decisions.
Virginia opened the scoring with a major decision from Colton Washleski, who beat Mikey Boulanger 12-3 to put the visitors on the board. Michael Murphy followed with an 8-4 decision at 165 to extend Virginia’s lead before Duke rallied in the midcard with three decisions from Aidan Wallace, Connor Barket and Dylan Ross.
Wallace, No. 24 at 174, delivered a 7-5 decision for Duke after a third-period takedown and a riding-time point closed the scoring. Wallace’s decisive sequence included a third-period takedown at the 10-second clock mark and an escape immediately after, followed by the riding-time point that finalized the margin.
Connor Barket, No. 24 at 285, won 4-2 with a second-period escape and takedown that produced the decisive four points. Dylan Ross closed the night for Duke with a 2-1 decision at 149; Ross scored two second-period single-point entries at the 0:53 and 0:45 marks that created the margin, and his opponent Wynton Denkins entered the bout ranked No. 31 at 149.
Virginia regained control with four consecutive bonus-point results. Rocco Hayes recorded a 12-1 major decision at 125. Kyle Montaperto finished a 17-1 technical fall at 133, and Gable Porter, No. 32, closed his match by technical fall, 15-0.
Steven Burrell Jr. collected a 12-4 major decision at 197, adding to Virginia’s bonus haul. The Cavaliers were credited with riding-time points in multiple matches that contributed to the final totals.
