Maryland @ Penn State Recap
Penn State beat Maryland 35-10 in State College on Feb. 9, 2025, as the Nittany Lions collected the bonus points that decided the dual. The comfortable margin reflected several bonus victories that Maryland could not match.
Luke Lilledahl turned in one of the biggest wins, cruising to a 20-4 technical fall at 125 pounds to give Penn State an early surge in team points. Maryland answered with Braxton Brown’s 9-1 major decision at 133, the Terrapins’ lone bonus-point victory and their clearest moment in the dual.
Penn State then broke the meet open in the middle weights. Shayne Van Ness closed his bout at 149 with a 17-2 technical fall, and Mitchell Mesenbrink followed with an 18-3 technical fall at 165. Those successive bonus wins produced the decisive scoring run that put the match out of reach for Maryland.
By the end the Nittany Lions had piled up enough majors and technical falls to finish 35-10. Maryland showed fight in spots, but Penn State’s string of bonus-point victories in the key weight classes determined the outcome in University Park.
