Morgan State tops Sacred Heart 25-14 in Baltimore dual
Morgan State used pins at 125 and 285 and a string of decisions and majors to beat Sacred Heart on Feb. 14 in Baltimore.
BALTIMORE — Morgan State defeated Sacred Heart 25-14 on Feb. 14 at Hughes Memorial Stadium.
The Bears opened scoring with a 2-0 decision at 197 by Eric Washington Jr., and the dual featured multiple momentum swings through the middle weights.
Sacred Heart grabbed a brief lead when Brendan Gilchrist rallied for a pin at 285. Morgan State answered less than a bout later when Julian Dawson recorded a fall at 125, returning the advantage to the home team.
Sacred Heart countered with bonus-scoring wins from Tyler Hildebrandt, who beat Treshaun Tecson 12-1 by major decision at 133, and Felix Lettini, who took an 11-2 major decision at 157. Those results kept the Pioneers within reach in the middle of the lineup.
Morgan State regained separation through a string of close decisions. Shawn Ryncarz posted a 2-0 decision at 141, Cort Vann won 4-2 at 174, and No. 31 Eugene Harney earned a 12-8 decision at 149 to add key team points.
Bryce Phillips secured bonus points for Morgan State with a 12-4 major decision at 184 late in the lineup, and the Bears preserved their margin through the remaining decisions to finish with a 25-14 advantage.
