Penn State @ Ohio State Recap

Penn State knocked off Ohio State 27-13 on Feb. 14, 2025 at The Ohio State University in Columbus. The dual was decided by a string of bonus-point finishes in the mid-to-upper weights that swung the meet firmly in Penn State’s favor.

Penn State’s run came in emphatic fashion. Mitchell Mesenbrink dominated at 165, posting a 19-4 technical fall, and Carter Starocci followed with a 22-7 technical fall at 184. Josh Barr sealed the margin with a 20-5 technical fall at 197. Those three tech falls supplied the bulk of Penn State’s bonus scoring and proved to be the critical stretch of the night.

Ohio State did generate big results of its own. Brendan McCrone delivered a fall over Luke Lilledahl at 125 for six team points, and Brandon Cannon picked up a 10-1 major decision at 157 for four more. Those bonus wins kept the Buckeyes competitive through the middle of the lineup, but they were not enough to counter Penn State’s trio of tech falls.

In the end the bonus-point differential decided the dual. Ohio State’s two bonus victories were significant, but Penn State’s consecutive technical falls created an insurmountable lead, ending the night with a 27-13 road victory.
