Little Rock defeats CSU Bakersfield 33-17 as pins and technical falls build decisive margin
The Trojans collected multiple bonus-point wins, including technical falls by two ranked wrestlers and three falls, to secure a 33-17 Pac-12 dual at the Jack Stephens Center.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Little Rock defeated CSU Bakersfield 33-17 on Feb. 8 at the Jack Stephens Center, using a series of pins and technical falls to build a margin Bakersfield could not overcome.
No. 5 Matty Bianchi turned the middleweights in Little Rock’s favor with an 18-3 technical fall at 165, and No. 19 Jaivon Jones finished his 157-pound match by technical fall, 15-0. Jones reached the 15-point margin with a takedown and three four-point nearfalls in the first period.
No. 21 Brock Herman set the tone early with a pin at 149, and Kodiak Cannedy added a fall at 184 after a stalling call on his opponent. Stephen Little was awarded a forfeit at 197, and No. 31 Michael Gasper closed the card with a 20-5 technical fall at 285.
CSU Bakersfield had individual bright spots. Richard Castro-Sandoval, No. 30 at 125, opened the dual with an 8-4 decision after building a multi-point second-period lead. Robert Jones recorded a 17-2 technical fall at 133, Bakersfield’s only bonus-point win. Guillermo Escobedo won 5-4 at 174.
Little Rock’s early string of bonus-point results created the decisive swing in the dual. The Trojans recorded multiple pins and technical falls in the opening portion of the lineup, stretching the advantage before Bakersfield won several matches late on the card.
Little Rock’s athletics recap described the team recording two pins and three technical falls and noted the Trojans held a 33-3 lead before the Roadrunners claimed the final three bouts. The dual was held at the Jack Stephens Center in Little Rock on Feb. 8.
